MTN Nigeria Takes Data on Trial to Abuja to Address Consumer Concerns About Data Usage

Data consumption, transparency and customer trust remain important issues in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, particularly as mobile data becomes central to how people work, communicate, access information and participate in the digital economy.

MTN Nigeria’s Data on Trial will convene key stakeholders in Abuja at the Transcorp Hilton on October 26, 2026, on the sidelines of the Nigerian Economic Summit. The session will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, media professionals, technology experts, consumer advocates and other influential voices to examine these issues, address the concerns shaping consumers’ experience with data services and encourage constructive dialogue.

Data on Trial is a courtroom-style public forum in which journalists, influencers and consumer advocates act as the “prosecution”, MTN’s senior executives respond in its “defence”, and an independent assessor weighs the evidence.

The Abuja edition follows sessions in Lagos in June and at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Abia State University in September as ; part of MTN Nigeria’s effort to create a platform for open conversations around data consumption and the relationship between telecommunications operators and their customers.

As dependence on mobile connectivity grows, so does the importance of helping consumers understand their data usage and ensuring that their concerns can be examined through informed engagement. Telecommunications operators must pay close attention to customer experiences, communicate clearly about data usage and respond to the concerns subscribers raise about the services they use.

Data on Trial encourages stakeholders to examine public concerns regarding data billing from different perspectives, demonstrating how transparency can strengthen confidence in data services.

The Abuja edition of Data on Trial represents another opportunity to advance conversations about transparency and customer trust at a time when digital connectivity continues to shape Nigeria’s economic and social environment. As the telecommunications industry evolves, constructive engagement between operators, consumers and other stakeholders will remain important to understanding changing expectations and improving the customer experience.
